Some are quick acquaintances, some become regular colleagues, while still others we are fortunate to call friends. James "Bayard" Carey CAS Production sound mixer Bayard Carey CAS passed away December 28 in his sleep at home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Bayard's career in entertainment began on the picture editorial side before Bayard began working for Sam Peckinpah as his driver, location scout, set PA, cable person, and then as the sound recordist on The Osterman Weekend (1983). Included in his more than 120 credits for TV and film are Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Into the West (2006) and The Lost Room (2007). In addition to the Cinema Audio Society, Bayard was a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, IATSE Local 480 (founding member), and Local 695. The CAS extends our heartfelt condolences to Bayard's family and friends. Tommy Causey CAS Thomas "Tommy" Causey, a production sound mixer for over four decades, died on January 11, 2026, in Cathedral City, CA, at the age of 76 after a long illness. His work earned him BAFTA and Academy Award nominations for Best Sound for Dick Tracy, as well as an Emmy nomination for Fire on the Mountain. He collaborated with some of cinema's most iconic directors, including Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Ritt, James L. Brooks, Warren Beatty, Adam Sandler, Terry Gilliam, and John Carpenter. Tommy was interviewed in May of 2020 for Episode 4 of the CAS podcast "In Conversation," available on the CAS website and podcast distributors.
