I'm often asked by friends, "Do you hear things differently? I mean, when you watch a movie or a TV show, I feel like you're listening to a different show than I am, or at least hearing it differently." The answer to that question, of course, is yes! As sound professionals, we hear the world differently. That perspective and experience are illuminated in our contribution to the stories that we help bring to life through sound. It's a kind of superpower that, while often not fully recognized, will continue to be a critical part of the filmmaking process. For 73 years, the Motion Picture Sound Editors organization has proudly celebrated the sonic artistry of sound professionals worldwide. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I offer our heartfelt congratulations to all the nominees for the 73rd Annual Golden Reel Awards on their outstanding work this past year. And for those who were not nominated, we affirm that 2025 was jam-packed with some of the most incredible soundtracks in our industry's history. It was a privilege to listen to so many nomination-worthy projects, and we thank and congratulate you on your outstanding work. For those whose projects have been nominated, I hope you recognize your enormous accomplishment and relish it with family members, friends, and colleagues alike. The real win is that we continue to pursue our passion and creativity, enhancing and telling stories through sound. We are thrilled to honor Mark Mangini with the Career Achievement Award and Kathleen Kennedy with our Honorary Filmmaker Award. Two trailblazing luminaries, each within their own spheres, who have left and continue to leave an inspired legacy in the art of filmmaking. We are privileged to have lived in their era and are even more fortunate that they continue to create for us all to enjoy. Our Board of Directors and Executive Director Tracie Costabile are simply the best partners any president of an organization could ask for. I offer my sincerest thanks to Tracie and our Board for their passion, intellect, and dedication to all that they do. I look forward to our evening of celebration! I congratulate you all on the outstanding and inspirational artistry you gave the world in 2025. DAVID BARBER MPSE I PRESIDENT
