This geographic location makes it an excellent spot for a sound conference that brings together both Nordic attendees and many from the main body of Europe. Sonic Days is using this advantage to grow every year and is quickly becoming a "can't miss" event on the sound person's calendar. Based at the University College of South Denmark's Kolding campus (UCSYD), Sonic Days resides in the recently built Sonic College. This is a building purposely built for sound education and appreciation. In addition to being a learning institution, Sonic College is also a performance space. It has a big open area in the lobby, that is referred to as a "sound-embracing atrium." It rises up five stories, and is an impressive way to welcome you to this unique environment. The atrium features 180 built-in surround speakers spread out over each level. This allows musicians and sound artists to deliver dynamic panning of multiple sound sources throughout the entire space. These performances sonically wrap around the audience on both the vertical and horizontal planes. On day one of Sonic Days, a choral performance by composers Josephine Philip and Hannah Schneider was commissioned for this space and was a spine-tingling event and like nothing I had ever experienced before. It was an excellent way to kick off an inspiring couple of days, dedicated to all things related to the art and business of sound. The building's main function is to house the modern studio facilities found throughout Sonic College, including studios for Foley, advanced 3D audio, live rooms, an ATMOS mixing theatre and more. The conference uses these amenities to its advantage for interactive demonstrations, lectures, and masterclasses during Sonic Days. The 2025 edition of the conference was its biggest yet, with over 80 different individual presentations over November 18-20. These talks were led by some of the top people in the world within the fields of game audio, sound design, audio post-production, scoring, sound for installations/museums, podcasts and more.
