LOCAL706.ORG • 29 M ulti-camera television is always fast paced and energetic, with or without an audience. Make it a show that combines music, comedy, high school drama, and a principal cast full of minors with limited set time … it's "all hands-on deck!" Challenging, yes, but also so much fun. Electric Bloom is an American teen sitcom created by Alex Fox, Eric Friedman, and Rachel Lewis. It tells the story of three very different 14-year-old girls who discover they have something special in common: music. They navigate their new friendships with all the ups, downs, and differences by staying true to each other and creating music together. When Tulip, Posey, and Jade realize that they all have flower names, Electric Bloom is created and they set a course for stardom. Each episode moves in and out of their 19-year-old post- performance confessional scenes where they narrate the story of their earlier high school exploits. Our aim was 14-year-old fun, natural beauty, contrasted with the 19-year-old "Biggest Band in the World" pop star glamour. We wanted the girls' personas to be relevant and trendsetting for both looks, while keeping the essence of each character intact. The catch, of course, was that they were minors. Each shoot day usually required several changes—often big ones—which kept the clock ticking. Someone was always just about to "pumpkin." The make-up team, lead by Department Head Lois Kawasaki Harriman, with key Robyn Rebbe and Nile Abbai, embraced an array of styles for a teen show. They incorporated Asian-inspired make- ups, bold cut creases, graphic liner, and dazzling accents like crystals, jewels, glitter and metallics, creating captivating looks that sparkled. The hair crew, headed by Brenda Blatt with key Melanie Verkins and Melanie Ervin, integrated subtle sparkles and elegant accessories, including rhinestone clips, vintage broaches, butterflies and other hair ALL PHOTOS COURTESY OF DISNEY jewelry, alongside braiding, extensions, bangs and wigs. Together, the teams designed, painted, bedazzled, braided, sewed, glued, glittered, and colored, collaborating to bring a vibrance and vision to the characters. Posey's Refined Style Robyn kept Posey's teen make-up fresh with light foundation, just a little mascara to show off her incredible lashes and brightening her face using a hint of rose blush and tinted lip balm. Her pop star look dazzles with defined contour, vibrant blush, sparkling glitter under the eyes' sharp-winged eyeliner or graphic liner, and bold glossy lips for a stage ready glow. Posey is polished, so Melanie V. created fashion-forward, neat and tidy hair styles, including signature curls and bow garnishes. When Posey transitions from freshman to pop star, she wears a top pony filled with volume and movement, adorned with a gold cuff embellishment and rhinestone patterns.
