LMGI COMPASS | Winter 2026 • 13 LM Ross Brodar/LMGI Is Featured on the BBC! New York-based location manager Ross Brodar/LMGI, a finalist in this year's LMGI Awards for his work on the Oscar-winning film Anora, is profiled by Tom Brook in two episodes of the flagship BBC News series Talking Movies. One was filmed amidst all the Oscar buzz before the awards, the other after it had won for Best Picture. Presenter Brook has been exploring the world of cinema since 1991 with film news, reviews and exclusive reports from New York and Hollywood, interviewing top directors and major stars. In these remote segments, he turns his sights behind the scenes, giving viewers a look into the world of location scouting and management. "I went to meet the man responsible for finding the film's locations, which gives this Oscar contender a really visually distinct style … and rich sense of place," says Brook in the first piece, and states in the second, "I really knew New York City before I came to live here because I'd seen so many different images of it in TV programs and movies. For filmmakers, New York City is still a magnet … a place that you really want to shoot on location." Brodar drives Brook around Brooklyn to some of Anora's iconic locations that its Russian-speaking population calls home. "The mansion, Brighton Beach, the club where Annie works, they are a character in the story. And a lot of times, the backdrop of a film … informs you so much as to the life of the characters in the movie," shares Brodar as he points out Tatiana Grill, the Parkview Diner, Williams Candy Shop and the iconic Cyclone roller coaster on Coney Island's boardwalk. He demonstrates how he visualizes a place from all angles, assessing its bones and textures, while imagining how what he'd read in the script might play out. Brook calls location managers a "special breed of human being" for their role in bringing locations to the screen. "I was absolutely honored that Tom was interested in talking to me," says Brodar. "We probably have one of the toughest jobs in the film industry. Hats off to all location crews. It's a tough gig and hard to navigate the myriad personalities and logistical challenges that come with it. We are thick-skinned warriors who help dreams come true and turn 'no' to 'yes' for a living!"
