10 • LMGI COMPASS | Winter 2026 Location Professionals Take the Spotlight at the First UK Location Manager Awards For decades, the credits have rolled past without pausing for one of filmmaking's most essential departments: the people who make every world on screen feel real. But on October 4, 2025, that changed. Liverpool's grand St George's Hall was filled with pride, humor and more than a few happy tears as the inaugural UK Location Manager Awards (UKLMA) honored the unsung heroes who keep the organized chaos of filming on location under control. The UKLMA joins the ranks of major international honors such as the Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) Awards in Los Angeles and the California On Location Awards (COLA), long-standing tributes to the craft across the Atlantic. For British location professionals, this was a long-overdue homecoming. From Inspiration to Reality The driving force behind the awards, Georgette Turner, knows both the grind and the glory of the job. A former LMGI Executive Board member-turned-producer, Turner said her spark came during the 2024 LMGI Awards in Los Angeles, where her mentor Sue Quinn/LMGI received a Lifetime Achievement Award. "I realized how little we do here in the UK to celebrate our own local heroes," she said. "Then, earlier this year, I bumped into a unit manager who looked like he hadn't slept in six weeks—still smiling, still joking, still completely dedicated. That was the moment I knew we had to make this happen." Turner reached out to Lynn Saunders at the Liverpool Film Office, who immediately offered her support. "Liverpool has always championed location teams," Turner noted. "It was the perfect city to bring this vision to life." by Dodd Vickers/LMGI www.lacenterstudios.com | 213-534-3000 | #LACSLife L E D VO L U M E STAG E S O U N D STAG E S E N C LOS E D ST R E E TS STA N D I N G S E TS 24/7 SECURED CAMPUS NEAR 10, 110, & 101 FREEWAYS FULL-SERVICE AMENITIES TURNKEY OFFICES L A ' S P R E M I E R I N D E P E N D E N T ST U D I O The Location Scout a novel Michael Jarvis The Location Scout a novel Michael Jarvis Enter moviemaking at ground level Follow Lucas Sloan from the Bahamas to the Dominican Republic.
