4 PROP CULTURE I WINTER 2026 LETTER FROM THE EDITORS I t is with pride and an even greater deal of gratitude that we welcome you to this special MacGuffin Awards issue of Prop Culture. What began as a spark inside the Property Masters Guild has quickly grown into a signature night on the calendar. It is hard to believe, but as we put these pages together, we recognize that we have reached our one-year anniversary. Like any first-year milestone, it feels both impossible and inevitable. It is impossible because the idea of a magazine dedicated solely to the art of props once felt like a dream whispered between two would-be magazine editors. Inevitable because the response from our community has been so overwhelming, so generous, and so inspiring that we know this magazine belongs not just to us, but to all of you who live this craft every day. Somehow we made it past pilot season!! The MacGuffin Awards give us the chance to celebrate our field in the same way. It is one of the few moments where props and the people who create and wrangle them step into the spotlight for a change, where the work that too often goes invisible is honored as essential. In the following pages, we take a brief moment to highlight the exceptional work of those Property Masters who took home trophies at this year's awards. In particular at this year's awards, we also recognized three individuals whose careers speak to the deeper meaning of our craft. Dennis Parrish, PMG received the Lifetime Achievement Award, a testament to decades of artistry and leadership. Chuck McSorley, PMG was honored with the Humanitarian Award for his generosity of spirit and service to our community in a time of great need. And Alfonso Ramirez was presented with the President's Award, acknowledging his role as a mentor and a champion of the work we do. Inside this issue, you will find not only coverage of the MacGuffin Awards, but also the columns and features that have become part of the Prop Culture rhythm. As we approach our one-year anniversary, we also want to pause and thank you. What began as a magazine by and for Property Masters has grown into something larger than we ever imagined. We are amazed and deeply grateful that our subscriber list now includes not only the Property Masters and Property Assistants, who make up our daily world, but also production designers, line producers, and crew members from every corner of the industry who recognize the importance of our craft. What has surprised us the most has been the number of subscriptions from outside the filmmaking world altogether. Movie fans who simply want to understand more about the props they see on-screen have joined us, and their support is both humbling and encouraging. Every subscription from outside the industry is a reminder that what we do reaches beyond the set and into the imagination of audiences everywhere. Prop Culture has always been about community, but that community is now wider and more welcoming than we initially imagined. It now stretches from property trailers to editing bays, from soundstages to living rooms, and from our colleagues on set to the movie fans who love the stories we help tell. That circle of support is what has carried us through this first year, and it is what will carry us forward. Prop Culture will continue to grow only with your voices at its center, and for that we remain truly grateful. The MacGuffin Awards may hand out the trophies, but every day brings its own victories: the right prop placed at the right time, a detail that makes the impossible believable, a problem solved quietly and without fanfare that allows the story to move forward. Those are the moments we live for. Here is to the winners, here is to the nominees, here is to year one, and here is to all of you who make this craft extraordinary. Sincerely, Scott A. Buckwald, PMG and Theresa Corvino, PMG
