A member of both SAG and AFTRA since 1988, Traister worked to promote inclusivity, particularly for Asian American and Pacific Islander performers and performers with disabilities, and she served her union in many leadership roles and on numerous national committees. In 2024, Traister was awarded the George Heller Memorial Award, which takes the form of a golden membership card, for her more than four decades of dedicated union service. It included stints on the SAG-AFTRA National Board and as president of the Colorado Local. Always a champion for labor, she was a vice president on the Executive Board of Colorado AFL-CIO, which recognized her in 2021 and 2023 as one of the top Asian/Pacific Islander leaders in the labor movement across the country. Traister also worked as an instructor at the Colorado Film School, where she extolled the benefits of union membership, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
