MPSE, SAE Institute Mexico & Tonebenders Host Mexico City M BY TIMOTHY MUIRHEAD MPSE & TERESA MORROW MPSE 90 M PS E . O R G exico City, aka CDMX, is the largest metropolis in North America, and some pretty incredible films and series have had their soundtracks created by the sound community that resides there. Yet the MPSE has very little presence in CDMX. This situation was overdue for a change. So, MPSE partnered with both SAE Institute Mexico and the Tonebenders Sound Design Podcast to plan a day-long event to celebrate the people doing groundbreaking sound work in Mexico City. The day started with three masterclass sessions for the students at SAE Institute, presented by MPSE members who flew in from Los Angeles, Dallas, and Toronto. The first presentation of the day was by Canadian MPSE Board member Timothy Muirhead, who spoke to the students about working in audio post for children's animated series. As the supervising sound editor of the global hit series PAW Patrol and the spinoff series Rubble & Crew, Timothy walked the students through the track layouts of an episode, the schedules the sound team works to, and the specific roles for each member of the team. Next up was supervising sound editor Brian Armstrong from Los Angeles, who talked about his work on many of the different Walking Dead franchise series, as well as his Emmy Award-winning sounds in Sho¯ ogun. Brian presented Pro Tools sessions to show students how the many different parts of the Attendees filling up seats ahead of the event. Photo by René Coronado ©
