At the end of the day, Riot served up an astounding array of fantastic desserts and opened their incredible onsite arcade for everyone. Guests got to enjoy the classics like pinball, Defender, and Mario Kart, as well as an entire room dedicated to computer gaming. It was the best ending to a perfect day, and every guest left with a smile. MPSE Picnic – Los Angeles The MPSE Fall Family Picnic is always one of the highlights of the year! It was an incredible day filled with fabulous fun for our members and their families. Huge thanks to our Picnic Committee for all their great ideas and hard work. Kids got to enjoy bouncers, gold mining, pony rides, face painters, and a balloon artist. Adults had their own fun with horseshoes, rides on the mechanical bull, 200-foot Alpine slide, and an open beer/wine bar. The grill was sizzling with tri-tip, BBQ chicken, tofu skewers, and all the yummy sides you could want. The dessert booth was overflowing with a variety of ice cream treats, popsicles, kettle corn, and chocolate chip cookies. No one left hungry! Guests had fun with lawn games like giant Jenga, giant Connect 4, cornhole, and Ping-Pong. Probably the most fun part of the day was during our picnic games, which had members hurling water balloons, racing in sacks and on blow-up ponies, and winning lots of fun prizes. We had three big winners in our raffle contest. We gave away a kids' basket filled with books, toys, games, and a Kindle Fire HD totaling $300; an adult basket filled with awesome MPSE merch, plus two memberships to the Academy Museum, courtesy of our friends at APM Music, worth $350; and our grand prize basket valued at $1,250, which included Academy Museum memberships plus two tickets to 73rd Golden Reel Awards. Congratulations to all our winners! Because of all the generous donations from our members and sponsors, the MPSE was able to raise $6,000 for the Ethel Crutcher Scholarship Fund. I say it all the time (because it's true), we have the best members! Thanks to everyone who donated, and we look forward to seeing everyone at next year's picnic. The Present + Future of Audio Post – Mexico In October, the MPSE was delighted to host our first event in Mexico. In partnership with SAE Institute in Mexico City and Tonebenders, we hosted a full day of sound panels featuring the top sound talent in Mexico, including Academy Award and BAFTA winner Jaime Baksht (Sound of Metal). SAE Institute students were treated to a private presentation in the morning by the MPSE's own Timothy Muirhead and Brian Armstrong. They walked the students through the process of creating sound for acclaimed shows like Sh ¯ o gun, The Walking Dead, and Paw Patrol. The two afternoon panel discussions were "The Sound of Pan's Labyrinth" and "The Present and Future of Sound Post in Mexico." Enormous thanks to all the talented and dedicated sound artists who participated in our panels. After the panels, the SAE Institute presented a feast of tacos and a beer/ wine bar to cap off the day. Guests got to discuss the day's information and network in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. Muchas gracias, Mexico! We look forward to returning. GameSoundCon – Los Angeles The MPSE was a proud Gold Sponsor of the event mixer for GameSoundCon in Burbank. The MPSE table was loaded with fun giveaways and our now-famous prize wheel. Visitors walked away with cool MPSE gaming merch like hats, T-shirts, mugs, and tote bags. Thanks to Board members Christopher Reeves, Christina Horgan, Garrett Montgomery, and Eric Marks for staffing the MPSE table and being incredible ambassadors for the organization. Sonic Days 2025 – Denmark The MPSE was happy to be back as a Gold Sponsor for Sonic Days 2025. We had the opportunity to sponsor their theater, which gave us the chance to share our newly created sizzle reel with attendees before each presentation. Huge thanks to MPSE Board member Timothy Muirhead for representing the MPSE in Denmark. Sound in Animation at Disney – Los Angeles Earlier this month, the MPSE was extremely proud to be welcomed to Disney's Burny Mattinson Theatre in the famed "hat" building for a fascinating and high-level panel discussion on animation, sound workflow, and how music and sound work to support the story. This event was in collaboration with our good friends at the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES). Guests were provided with delicious gourmet sandwiches and drinks and enjoyed the opportunity to network after the event was over. It's always a pleasure to spend quality time with colleagues. We hope that you have enjoyed attending these events as much as we enjoyed having you there!
