FROM THE COLLECTION OF ROBERT BOYLE Boris Leven ( 1908-1986) was born in Moscow and immigrated to America, fleeing the Bolshevik Revolution. He studied architecture at USC, a classmate of Robert Boyle's, and joined the Paramount Art Department in 1933 as a sketch artist and draftsman, assisting the legendary Hans Dreier. Among his nine Oscar ® nominations were West Side Story, The Sound of Music, The Andromeda Strain, and Giant. Mr. Leven was one of the first inductees into the ADG Hall of Fame. The second issue of PERSPECTIVE was published in December 2005 and introduced color images to the journal. The main color feature of the issue was a series of watercolors done by Production Designer Boris Leven. These lovely sketches were done for the most part on weekend excursions around Los Angeles, painting simply for the joy it brought the painter.
