12 • THE ARTISAN WINTER 2026 CRAFT EDUCATION Blood and Bruises and Glam On August 17th, our Make-Up Craft Education was its usual potpourri of glam and gore. We welcomed longtime Craft Education participants MAC and Besamé Cosmetics, and new presentations from Temptu, Lunaescent, Primabiotic, The Rebbe Mat, Allied FX and Black Heart Blood. Studio Fix has always been, what I call my "Magic Make-up" in my kit. When I began working as an artist, HD cameras had come into trend and everyone's imperfections glared on camera. I used to carry a large bag of MAC Studio Fix compacts; a mix of diverse shades that I would use on my more corporate or interview clients. Whenever I had a client complain, "Oh, I don't want any make-up," I would reply, showing them the compact, "this is just powder. Is that Ok?" Seeing a familiar and unthreatening compact (albeit a color-tinted powder with so much more magic to it), they would oblige, and we would both be happy. They would get a dusting of "powder" to control the shine, and I knew the power of Studio Fix gave them some make-up coverage that, in result, would tone down the imperfections and redness on their skin that was exaggerated with the HD technology. MAC Cosmetics came to our event to discuss the Hyperreal skincare line, as well as the updates to the Studio Fix formula. The new version is now talc-free, with a smoother and softer "airbrushed" silky matte finish and leaving a lighter and more skin-like feel. In addition to offering a 24-hour oil control, the new packaging has been updated to a refillable compact which all of us pros love. Less waste, less expensive, and we were likely just going to deport it anyway, right?! Like many businesses post- pandemic, Besamé Cosmetics longtime storefront in Burbank sadly shuttered. Gabriela Hernandez (of Besamé) came to discuss the latest launches, as well as the tried-and-true classics to the brand which include her heritage inspired colors, vegan formulations, her podcast Classic Beauty with Besamé Cosmetics, her online shop, and her reference book Classic Beauty: The History of Makeup. Local 706 member Robyn Rebbe came to show her latest addition to her beautiful eco- friendly make-up products to adorn our stations with her new silicone mat. Lunaescent demonstrated its product applicator for skincare and even make-up. She shared how her personal experience with pharmaceutical cream application was damaging the skin on her fingers from long-term use, which led her to create her tool and how it had other benefits beyond its intended creation. She discussed the challenges with traditional by CLAIRE ALEXANDRA DOYLE Make-Up Craft Educstion President sponges, hands and other face tools and how her tool brings effective results with less product absorption and waste, easier to sanitize, and can create a flawless application alternative. Primabiotic discussed and shared samples of its drinkable collagen supplement available in its two formulations, as well as its latest drinkable hyaluronic acid. Allied FX was so kind to share products for my personal LA Wildfire Artists relief efforts, that they offered the leftover products as generous raffle items to our in-person attendees. Allied created an introductory video to share, as its brand is based out of Australia. Local 706 make-up artist Arlene Martinez discussed her journey to create her brand, Black Heart Blood. "I've been making my own blood recipes for 20 years. I started selling my personal supply to other departments when I began to experience a demand for artisan grade faux blood. I had the passion and the supply and demand found me. With any order, you can customize your blood's texture, color, finish, and even the packaging. I offer so many options such as blood bags, glass droppers and syringes to name a few. We strive to remain plastic-free as much as possible." You can find more about Arlene's custom blood at www.blackheartblood. com. Keeping on theme with the injury demos, 706 make-up artist Tym Buacharern shared a demo on creating custom bruises. From creation to application, Tym wanted to share this craft he learned many years ago at a former Local 706 Make-Up Craft Education meeting by a legendary make-up artist. "I wanted to share this technique with my peers to make sure Out of Kit techniques don't disappear." Tym demonstratred how you can create sheets of custom bruises by painting on wax paper, and photo examples of his work where this technique played on camera. The results were incredible, and we are so grateful to Tym for keeping this simple and affordable technique alive by sharing it at our event. Any artist who wants to share a technique is always welcome to share, and I look forward to more of our artists getting involved and sharing these valuable skills. In case you forgot, "What was that product they discussed," you'll be happy to know I have created lists of all products and presenters at the Craft Education events I've put together over the years on my personal Shopmypage, under my "Make-Up Craft Events" at https://shopmy.us/ curlyourlashes
