20 B M & T ••• September/October 2025 ••• www.blackmeetingsandtourism.com intern—feels like a crucial part of the CVB's mission. "These are dynamic and exciting times," said one CVB employee, citing Dan's commitment to full transparency as CEO. He is making GBCVB a place where everyone is seen. 3. INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY: THE FUTURE OF HOSPITALITY An early career start with tech within the hospitality industry, he is a strong advocate for innovation. Williams believes that technology isn't just about keeping up with the times—it's about shaping the future of the hospitality industry, creating enduring partnerships and engaging the community in ways previously unimaginable. He's passionate about tapping into Birmingham's growing tech ecosystem, forging new partnerships with the emerging tech talent, innovators, and world-class research institutions to position GBCVB as the technolo- gy destination. Rightly so, Williams sees innovation as the tool to help the community thrive: a tool suited perfectly for growth, inclusion, and sustainable progress. 4. EDUCATION, EQUITY, AND OPPORTUNITY: WELCOMING THE NEXT GENERATION Williams' vision for The Greater Birmingham CVB goes far beyond the immediate needs of the tourism industry; it extends into the future—the next generation of hospitality professionals, leaders, and change-makers. Deeply valuing education as the primary bridge to demonstrating to the community the endless possibilities available in the hospitality sector to strengthen Birmingham for generations to come, he wants to open the doors, build with equity and truly drive home how beneficial the hospitality industry can be for them, espe- cially the youth. Within the first two weeks of his new leadership, GBCVB established partnerships with local high schools and colleges, launching internship programs that will bring young talent into the industry. These cohorts will have hands-on opportunities to shadow professionals in real time and explore careers in all aspects of hospitality — from sales and marketing to event coordination and catering. But whether it's in technology, event planning, or operations—there's a place for them. They don't have to worry about fitting into old boxes. The opportunities are limitless for the next generation. Williams is working tirelessly to remove barriers, ensuring that the industry feels welcoming, inclusive and is accessible to everyone. "You belong in the room." Williams explains. "You belong in every room and you have a voice in every room." A LEGACY OF GROWTH, IMPACT, AND COMMUNITY As Williams continues to chart the course for The Greater Birmingham CVB, his legacy is already becoming clear. It's not about accolades or personal achieve- ments—it's about leaving behind a legacy of impact, where the next generation of leaders will continue the work he started. He's committed to a mentorship-driven culture that fosters opportunity for all, particularly young people looking to make their mark in the world of hospi- tality. "I want my legacy to be that I was welcoming. That I truly brought people along. And made it possible for oth- ers to be brought along." For Williams, true success isn't measured in titles or numbers—it's about empowering others and giving them the tools they need to thrive. And with his leadership, it's clear that Birmingham's hospitality industry will do just that. For more on the Birmingham CVB and Dan Williams' initiatives, visit InBirmingham.com.
