LMGI COMPASS | Summer 2025 • 53 Bob Dylan's career finds its footing on the East Coast in A Complete Unknown, transporting audiences back to the music legend's early years and capturing the essence of a period that Dylan helped shape. The New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission proved indispensable in recreating the feel of 1960s folk culture, with the state's diverse and adaptable locations doubling for Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Upstate New York—all brought to life without the use of CGI. The Commission was a key driver behind ambitious shoots that called for Hoboken and Jersey City to be meticulously transformed into 1950s–1960s Manhattan, with Moran's Pub and Little City Books standing in for bohemian hangouts and entire neighborhoods dressed to reflect the surging energy of mid-century New York City. Echo Lake Park in Union County was reimagined as the Newport Folk Festival grounds, complete with hundreds of extras and a vibrant, era- authentic atmosphere. Cape May was transformed into the 1960s seaside community of Newport, Rhode Island with its Victorian Motel rebranded as the Viking Hotel. MONTANA FILM OFFICE – 1923 SEASON 2 The Montana Film Office lays a new track for the Western epic's second chapter with a groundbreaking partnership that ties together the story's travel elements and breathes life into the climax of the protagonist's heroic journey home. Montana Film Office facilitated equipment transport and mobilized community resources in Missoula and Butte. It collaborated with BNSF to propose rail locations, private owners, city and county resources to find a period-specific steam train and station that would accommodate weeks of filming and not disrupt rail traffic—all while holding hundreds of extras and vintage vehicles. Thanks in part to their month-long work, Butte had its first steam train chugging down the tracks since the 1950s at the Front Street Station and adjacent railyard that doubles as the snowy, bustling Bozeman depot and scene of the final episode's chaotic shootout. www.lacenterstudios.com | 213-534-3000 | #LACSLife L E D VO L U M E STAG E S O U N D STAG E S E N C LOS E D ST R E E TS STA N D I N G S E TS 24/7 SECURED CAMPUS NEAR 10, 110, & 101 FREEWAYS FULL-SERVICE AMENITIES TURNKEY OFFICES L A ' S P R E M I E R I N D E P E N D E N T ST U D I O Classic and international gardens, roads, ponds, mature trees, statues, architecture.
