M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 5 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome to Wavelength's Fall 2025 edition! I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer. Once again, we are thrilled to highlight our MPSE game sound community in this edition of MPSE Wavelength. Christina, Garrett, and the whole Wavelength crew have assembled some fantastic articles to inform and inspire you about the world of game sound. On July 19, the MPSE co-hosted another inspiring event on the Warner Bros. lot in Southern California—Creativity and Craft in Post-Production. The day was kicked off with welcomes and inspiring words from Kim Waugh, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Post-Production Creative Services for WB, and MPSE Vice President Eric Marks in the Steven J. Ross Theater. This was followed by the highlight of the day, our sound panel, comprised of some of the top talent in our industry, discussing their experiences, tips, best practices, and projects. Karol Urban MPSE CAS moderated the stellar sound panel—Onnalee Blank MPSE, Nancy Nugent Title, MPSE, Lauren Johnson, Abby Potts, Kimberly McCord Wilson, and Lena Glikson. Sound design rooms and the Foley stage were also open for all attendees to sit with, watch, and discuss the audio post-production process with professionals during the "mixer" portion of the day. Keep your eyes peeled for all our upcoming events as we continue to engage, inspire, and build our sound community. In late August, we'll be in London sponsoring a get- together with the Tonebenders Podcast in Soho. In September, we co-host the much- anticipated Game Audio Fest at Riot Games in Los Angeles. In October, things really get going! Submissions will open for the 73rd Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards. We have our annual MPSE Family Picnic, followed shortly by GameSoundCon. And finally, our ever-growing collaboration with our friends at the Cinema Audio Society, the Sounding Board 5.0, will take flight once again. As we approach awards season, I'll remind you that what sets our awards apart from others is your participation on Blue Ribbon panels to determine the winners. Please keep an eye out for emails with information on how to sign up or simply contact the office. The only restriction is that you cannot participate on a panel that is judging a category in which you are nominated. Your discerning professional ears make all the difference! Lastly, as you may have seen, the MPSE has become a leader in the industry on the subject of Generative AI (artificial intelligence) and its impact on not just sound, but filmmaking in general. I am incredibly proud of our AI and Rules committees for their research, thought, and courage in taking these bold steps and confronting, head-on, one of the most significant challenges to our craft in history. Their leadership has elevated the visibility and reputation of the MPSE to new heights, with articles published in Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Production Expert, The Society of Composers & Lyricists' magazine, and most recently, Vanity Fair. We are examining the subject from all angles diligently. We will continue to craft the language of our rules and regulations to acknowledge these technological advancements in an ethical manner, while always prioritizing the art of human creation and the role of sound artists.
