of those in 1/1000th of the time and render me old-school. What excites you most about the future of sound in games, trailers, or immersive experiences? Charles Deenen: Over the years, I've been asked this question numerous times, and I think the answer hasn't changed much. In games, the moment I can fully believe what I'm immersed in and hear and no longer hear the sound bed as sound—that is the moment I'll be crying for joy. It's incredibly hard to break that barrier. We've all tried for years. While we get there 90%, it's that last 10% that's incredibly hard. There's always a jump, a turn, a pick- up, a footstep, a skid that's not 100% attached feeling, and it instantly makes you realize again that it's all fake. I don't know if we'll ever reach it as an industry, but my hopes are very high. Trailers: My hopes are that in five years, we'll still be doing sound for trailers. My gut says that AI will start to take over a great deal of not only trailer picture editing but also the associated sound for it. So, I'll be excited if, in five years, we still are working on trailers. Immersive: While we've worked on a ton of VR/AR headset projects, we're seeing the big-venue immersive projects open up more. We've had a lot of fun working on those. We're looking forward to a lot more of those. In trailers, it's all about timing, musicality, and steering the audience's emotions frame by frame. In vehicle sound, it's not just about the mechanics—it's about capturing the personality that makes each car feel alive. Charles moves between these worlds, always looking for new ways to raise the bar for sound in games, films, commercials, and beyond. And judging by the energy he brings to every project, he's not slowing down anytime soon.
