8 I D G A M O N T H L Y In July, the DGA's Women's Steering Committee (WSC) will be seeking applicants for the newest class of its WSC Squad Mentorship Program. The program, which debuted in July of 2021, pairs 11 mid-career Directors with well-established mentors. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 11. The WSC Squad Mentorship Program will run for six months and aims to create a solid community of working Directors within the DGA's WSC. The program will provide frank guidance and discussions around the unique issues that female Directors face to support and prepare WSC members as they seek to advance their directing careers. This program is for mid-level DGA Directors in the Women's Steering Committee which is defined as the following: [A] is a DGA member; [B] has worked in a professional capacity in the film/television industry for at least five years and; [C] has directed something in the last two years that has been publicly released (i.e. on television/streaming, in a theater and/or in a festival competition). Mid-level career Directors may apply to the WSC Squad Mentorship Program with the following materials: [1] A short reel or clip link of your selected work (no longer than 10 minutes); [2] A bio and/or resume (in a single pdf file) and; [3] A letter of interest that includes why you are interested in the program, what you hope to get out of it, who you are as a person and as a Director, what area/s of directing you are interested in (TV, features, docs, commercials, etc.), what sort of mentor you hope for, and anything else about yourself you think is relevant to your work as a Director. The WSC Squad Mentorship Program is coordinated by Directors Morenike Joela Evans, Jen McGowan and Rachel Raimist. For more information about the WSC Squad Mentorship Program please email WSC@dga.org or visit www.thewscsquad.com/application. Asian American Committee Launches Mentorship Program The Asian American Committee (AAC) has announced the launch of The Family Table, the DGA's first-ever project-based narrative feature film mentorship program, created with the Asian American perspective — specifically the AAPI lived experience — in mind. The deadline to apply is Saturday, July 12. Created by the Committee, the program is designed to support AAC members in good standing who have demonstrated a strong directorial voice through: a completed narrative feature or a narrative short programmed at an Academy-qualifying festival, plus three television episodes or a narrative short programmed at an Academy-qualifying festival, plus a significant body of work (commercials, segments, music videos, etc.). In its inaugural year, four-five selected mentees will be paired with experienced DGA feature Directors who are matched not just to the mentee, but to their feature film project. In addition to one-on-one mentorships, the participants will engage in AAC community-supported opportunities designed to foster creative exchange — a direct pipeline of visibility and a stronger, interconnected AAPI community. The AAC's Family Table feature film mentorship program will run for nine months beginning in September 2025. There is no cost to apply or participate. The program is coordinated by Directors Maureen Bharoocha, Jean E. Lee, Jennifer Phang, Miko Lim and Ravi Kapoor.
