14 PROP CULTURE I SUMMER 2025 By Randy Taylor A Conversation with Jamie Wilkinson, Wicked Property Master W izards, witches and props, oh my! A wand covered in diamonds, books that can dance, and a gravity- defying broom are just a few of the items that help make fantasy a reality in the musical film Wicked. This past November, audiences were once again transported to the wonderful world of Oz. The film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. It tells the untold story of the witches of Oz. Director Jon M. Chu adapted the 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schartzman and was tasked with recreating a story that has been popular for more than 20 years. Wicked: The Musical is known by audiences for its spectacular sets, elaborate costumes and, of course, its iconic props. The man behind the curtain is Property Master Jamie Wilkinson, and he explains what it takes to create Elphaba's broom, Glinda's wand, and the other props that help bring the story of Wicked to life on the big screen.
