4 M PS E . O R G LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome to Wavelength's Summer 2025 edition! Summer is finally here and it is my sincere hope that you are able to get out and celebrate in the way that you most enjoy. There are some beach days and the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals in my near future. Let me know if you're going to be local! The Board of Directors is already hard at work implementing several ambitious initiatives as well as planning our "standard" fare of creating great events for the sound and filmmaking communities. Speaking of great events, WOW, did we knock it out of the park on May the 4th ( be with you) with our 20th Anniversary screening of STAR WARS: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith at the Darryl F. Zanuck Theater on the Fox Studio Lot. Nearly 400 attendees were treated to a one-of-a-kind experience as Lucasfilm created a Dolby Atmos DCP exclusively for this event. But wait, there's more! Co-supervising sound editor and voice of General Grievous, Matthew Wood, flew down to be with us for the day. During the Q&A , he dazzled us with behind-the-sounds stories and gave us a look under the hood at the dialogue chain he used to create General Grievous's distinct vocal tone. And then a performance from General Grievous himself ! Check our socials for video clips. Also, during the Q&A , what everyone thought was a still photograph on his laptop suddenly came to life as none other than Mr. Ben Burtt joined the show via Zoom. The audience erupted and was treated to back-and-forth stories from two masters of our art form. Thank you, and congratulations to Eric Marks, master of ceremonies and "Mr." MPSE Presents; Tracie Costabile, Executive Director; Dawn Rosenquist, Fox Studio Lot Marketing Director; the Fox Studios Lot; the projection team; and our many volunteers. What a fantastic way to kick off the summer of MPSE events. And we're going international! • TORONTO: June 13 - MPSE PRESENTS Back to the Future - 40th Anniversary" at the Vaughn Film Festival, Q&A with Sound Designer Scott Hecker MPSE • LONDON: August 24 - MPSE PRESENTS w/WBPPS Inception at the Dolby Theater in London, Q&A with Oscar-Winning Sound Designer Richard King • LOS ANGELES: September (date TBA) - MPSE & RIOT Games Audio Present - Game Audio Fest Stay tuned to our "Upcoming Events" page at mpse.org for the latest on our activities.
