8 S U M M E R 2 0 2 5 I C A S Q U A R T E R L Y Chris Polczinski CAS is a production sound mixer from Ohio, currently based in Los Angeles. His love for sound began early as a musician, tinkering with radios and building mics, speakers, and acoustic panels for his makeshift studio. He began his professional career as a Foley artist, but when his studio manager referred him for a job on set, he immediately fell in love and changed careers to production. Chris's mixing credits include Fall, Queen of the Ring, and The Art of Self Defense, among others. COLLABORATORS Kurt Kassulke CAS is a longtime effects re-recording mixer with an Emmy for Ally McBeal and diverse credits ranging back to The X-Files, The Practice, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, NYPD Blue, Castle, Under the Dome, The Vampire Diaries, and Hawaii 5-0. Kurt's most recent work can be heard on Grey's Anatomy, Project Blue Book, Big Sky, and more! G. John Garrett CAS is a production sound mixer living in Boston, MA. He began mixing live music around 1970 and learned acoustics, signal flow, and recording technology along the way. He began in the industry booming for Boulder mixer Garrett Collenberger and moved into mixing documentaries, commercials, and feature films after moving to Boston in 1984. He then expanded his RF training by working with broadcast engineers and now also consults with a broadcast tech company in the area. CAS Associate member Sam Casas has been working as a re-recording mixer and sound designer at Lime Studios in Santa Monica since 2003. He has found a successful niche mixing television commercials for Global and National brands such as Adidas, Visa, QuickBooks, and Postmates, to name a few. In addition to his commercial work at Lime Studios, he finds time to mix the occasional independent feature such as Lupe for HBO Max, various shorts, and music videos for artist such as H.E.R. and French Montana. Joining MPEG in 2017, and then MPSE and CAS in 2018 as an Associate member, Sam has a passion for acquiring and sharing knowledge. With a love of film and episodic television, the CAS has been a great inspiration in his goal to bring a cinematic approach to all his work. Connecting with other members while writing articles for the CAS Quarterly has been especially educational and rewarding. Sam has a fully equipped and treated 5.1 studio at his home in Studio City, CA, which he has been able to make his primary workplace since the start of the pandemic in 2020. In his spare time, he enjoys reading books about acoustics, thinking about maybe starting to exercise again, and spending time with his wife Elise and son Sebastian. Keith Hodne CAS began his career DJ'ing some of New York City's most iconic nightclubs. His love for sound and music led him to his 20-plus-year career as a supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer. To date, Keith has worked on some of the decade's most critically acclaimed documentaries, including O.J.: Made in America, The Last Dance, Sr., and 100 Foot Wave. O.J.: Made in America took home many prestigious awards, including the Academy Award for Best Documentary, and Keith received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a nonfiction program and a CAS Award nomination for Outstanding Sound Mixing for his work. In 2021, Keith was nominated for two MPSE Golden Reel Awards in the Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing category for Netflix's The Last Dance and High Score. Most recently, Keith received his second Primetime Emmy nomination and first CAS Award win for HBO's 100 Foot Wave Season 2. In addition to sound, Keith loves shooting Canon DSLR, has an extensive 12" vinyl collection, along with a "healthy" sneaker obsession. Juan Cisneros CAS is a Los Angeles- based production sound mixer originally from Lima, Peru, with more than 28 years of experience. His work includes sound mixing for House M.D., Mayans MC, Pam & Tommy, and Station 19, and he has received four Emmy nominations, winning twice. Juan's industry contributions include sitting on the Cinema Audio Society's Board of Directors, previously serving on the Board of Directors for IATSE Local 695, and membership in the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Peter Kelsey CAS started his career in sound at the illustrious independent recording studio Trident Studios, where all the early Elton John and David Bowie albums were recorded. Here, Peter learned from engineers and producers such as Rupert Hine, Ken Scott, Roy Thomas Baker, Robin Geoffrey Cable, and David Hentschel. He was a second engineer on the Carly Simon album No Secrets, and part of the mixing team for Elton John's album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. After moving to the USA, he did a lot of work as a scoring mixer before moving into post-production sound. He has worked on many David Kelley shows, including Ally McBeal and Boston Legal, for both of which he won sound mixing Emmys. He worked for RH Factor for many years and for the last three years, has worked for Smart Post Sound. He is currently working on Speechless, The Chi, Arrested Development, and Dead to Me. Peter has a degree in mathematics, a black belt in tae kwon do and loves to do public speaking.
