While we typically receive about 20 applications, this year we received 40! I was gratified to see that the submissions were again of a very high quality. This definitely bodes well for the future of our industry. This award is open to any student enrolled and in good standing at an accredited college or university. Students may be pursuing any major but should have a demonstrated interest and experience in production and/or post-production sound for film and television. Aura Sound and Color, along with Shure Incorporated, sponsored the award and prizes were given in the amounts of $5,000 to the winner and $1,000 to each of the other four finalists. In a tradition that began last year, the winner also received a physical statue similar to those given for the other awards. All the finalists received a valuable collection of software and other gifts from these proud sponsors: Acon Digital, Avid, BPI, Common Sense Products, GC Pro Custom House, Halter Technical, K-Tek, Krotos Audio, Lectrosonics Inc., McDSP, Pace, Pro Tapes, Shure Incorporated, Todd-AO/Absentia DX, and Zaxcom. We truly appreciate the generosity and encouragement of these extremely supportive companies. In addition to the sponsors, I would like to thank all the CAS members who gave their time to judge the applications and the finalists' videos. This year's nominees were: Kat Frazier of Ohio University Aidan Jones of Savannah College of Art and Design Guillermo Moya of Full Sail University Tejumoluwa Olarewaju of Savannah College of Art and Design Trinh Vo of DePaul University And the winner was Guillermo Moya of Full Sail University. Guillermo gave a great speech as he accepted the award, but I wanted to find out more about him, so I sent him some questions and received the following responses. What brought you into sound and specifically sound for film?
