5 2 P E R S P E C T I V E M AY / J U N E 2 0 2 5 REBIRTH is the key word to describe much of how the creative team approached making the series. Ten years after its enormously popular run on Netflix, Marvel was rebooting the Hell's Kitchen- based story of Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) to shoot in New York City with the original cast. The series was called Born Again, based on the original 1986 comic arc. Having never been a comic book kid or seen much of the Netflix series and generally not that familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, getting a call to design this world was very exciting but also slightly unexpected. Since most of my experience has been fairly reality-based grounded drama, I wasn't sure at first if I was the best candidate. This was exactly what I asked in the interview—are you sure? However, it turned out that Marvel was searching for a new look and fresh eyes. Someone to create a grounded, real world for the action and drama to contrast the superhero aspect. This was to be a real-world inhabited by superheroes. So, it turned out that my past designs and approach to projects were exactly what they were looking for, and I got the project.
