1 8 I D G A M O N T H L Y DOCUMENTARY SERIES CLASSIC FILM SERIES Rear Window Directed by Alfred Hitchcock The Special Projects Committee invites you to join them for a special 35mm print screening of Sir Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 classic, Rear Window. A photographer in a wheelchair spies on his neighbors from his Greenwich Village courtyard apartment window, and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder, despite the skepticism of his fashion-model girlfriend. Considered by many fi lmgoers, critics, and scholars to be one of the greatest fi lms ever made, Rear Window received four Academy Award nominations as well as a DGA Award nomination for Hitchcock. In 1997, it was added to the Library of Congress' National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically signifi cant." Deaf President Now! Directed by Nyle DiMarco & Davis Guggenheim Gallaudet University, the world's only four-year liberal arts school serving deaf and hard- of-hearing students, is a cherished institution for the community. But by 1988, the school founded by Abraham Lincoln in 1864, had never been led by a Deaf person. When the Gallaudet board of trustees announced their decision to appoint a hearing president over several very qualifi ed Deaf candidates, the students rallied together in a powerful demand for representation, equity, and self-determination marking a pivotal moment for Deaf rights. In their examination of "the greatest civil rights movement most people have never heard of," Nyle DiMarco & Davis Guggenheim's Deaf President Now! recounts the eight tumultuous days in 1988 where four students must fi nd a way to lead an angry mob to change the course of history.
