2 PROP CULTURE I SPRING 2025 LETTER FROM THE EDITORS W elcome to the second issue of Prop Culture magazine! This holds a high level of both pride and gratitude to all of those who offered their praise and words of kindness upon the arrival of our first issue. Our thanks and appreciation cannot stop there. The submissions we received for our first issue went beyond our expectations. If you haven't yet, we encourage you to read the insightful and entertaining pieces by Chris Call, Dean Eilertson, and Anna Loesby in our first issue, available digitally or preferably by holding a physical copy in your hands. Creating Prop Culture is a labor of love, so thank you for reading, thank you for contributing, and please continue doing both! Following up with our theme that "Prop Culture Is Pop Culture," we are proud to present an exclusive interview with the legendary Jeff Bridges. Known for his captivating performances and iconic characters, Jeff sat down with us to discuss a topic that perhaps no other such celebrated actor has ever dedicated an entire interview to and that is to share his insights into the importance of props in his work and his one-on-one relationship with the Property Master. His reflections on specific props from his films and acknowledgment of the skill and expertise of the Property Master offer a unique and intimate glimpse into his creative process. We cannot be more grateful for Jeff's gracing our cover so early on in our history! Whether you are a part of the motion picture industry or simply a movie fan, this is an interview you will not want to miss. We are delighted to feature "Building the World of Saturday Night" by Property Master Mychael Bates. Mychael shares with us not only the process of working on a period piece but the challenges that occur when the film concerns one of the most culturally significant television programs of the last 50 years! This is a true insider's view! In "All the Props You Cannot See," Property Master Pola Shreiber reveals the hidden significance of props that may not be in the spotlight but still carry meaning and influence. This is a firsthand look at how much detail can go into a prop that may only be seen by the film's director or the actor handling it. If more explanation is needed as to exactly what is a prop, then Prop Culture co-editor Theresa Corvino will answer that question with her piece, "What Exactly Is a Prop, Anyway?" The answer is not as obvious as you may think! We're also pleased to welcome back "Dear Theresa and Scott," "Ask the Experts," and "Scene Stealers." Thank you again for your page-turning, your contributions, and your support! We hope we live up to your expectations with issue two of Prop Culture. Sincerely, Scott A.
