The ski lift sequence was heavily storyboarded. The characters are being chased by reapers and need to get to a higher location quickly. We shot at Copper Mountain Ski Resort where Will, Nina and Katie are trapped and the only solution is to start the ski lift and take it up to higher ground. Once on the lift, the creatures derail the cable and it's a scary situation for them. Katie makes a giant leap from the ski lift tower onto the gondola. For this, we shot stunts on location and then onstage in Atlanta. Supervising Art Director Kevin Lang and Chris Armistead (both of whom I worked with on the Red Notice reshoots) began setting up the stage at Atlanta Filmworks to receive us while we were still in Colorado. Incidentally, it was while shooting the ski lift where people began to feel altitude sickness, everyone got it, even all the actors. It is no joke. After escaping the reapers on the ski lift, Will, Katie and Nina find the only way to keep going is to travel through an old mine. We shot this in a real mine, the Edgar Mines in Idaho Springs, CO., which is a mining school. In fact, there is a real classroom in the middle of this mine! It's an atmospheric sequence, the characters are trying to get through a section that drops down below eight thousand feet, so things are intense when they are detected by their carbon dioxide emissions and escape to hide in a small cramped section of the cave. This small section was sculpted in Atlanta by Chris Armistead's crew. We brought actual rocks and soil samples for Supervising Art Director Kevin Lang and crew to study and make samples. Toward the end of the sequence, they must hide from the apex predators in a small cave that the reapers are too large to enter.
