L E T T E R AS WE TURN THE PAGE TO A NEW YEAR, IT'S HARD TO IGNORE THE IMMENSE CHALLENGES OUR COMMUNITY HAS FACED. The devastating Eaton and Palisades Fires have left an indelible mark on hundreds of TAG and IATSE members and their families. Many lost everything—irreplaceable personal items, tools essential for work, transportation, and even their communities. This tragedy comes at a time when our industry is already under significant strain. Those fortunate enough to have homes still standing face long waits to return while the area is deemed safe and cleared of toxins. Even then, they'll be stepping back into neighborhoods that are unrecognizable: schools, daycares, coffee shops, community centers, and other gathering spaces that foster connection are gone. We've also seen the heartbreaking loss of historical and generational homes—houses passed down as a foundation for family stability and wealth—wiped out in hours. Renters, too, are facing grim realities, thrust into an increasingly competitive housing market. Many were already walking a financial tightrope, piecing together short gigs to stay afloat. For some, this meant letting renters' insurance lapse, leaving them without the means to recover lost equipment or rebuild their livelihoods. The scope of need is immense, and the red tape involved in accessing relief can be overwhelming. It's easy to feel powerless in the face of such destruction. Yet, even amidst the heartbreak, there is hope. The response from our members, fellow Los Angelenos, and supporters across the globe has been nothing short of extraordinary. People are stepping up in countless ways to address immediate needs and forge creative paths forward. From fundraising campaigns to temporary housing initiatives, supply donations, and advocacy for disaster relief, the acts of solidarity we've witnessed have been a profound reminder of the strength we hold when we come together. Here at the Guild, office staff have dropped everything to contact and assist every member who lost a home or is displaced, and the TAG Foundation is providing gift cards for immediate needs and helping replace work equipment. The Hollywood Locals have come together to provide a wealth of essentials, from furnishings to insurance clinics, while local artists have hosted fundraisers for much-needed financial aid. As we move forward, we must continue to lift each other up. Whether through donations, volunteer efforts, or simply checking in on one another, every action matters. For those impacted by this disaster, know that you are not alone. Your Union family stands with you, ready to provide support in any way we can. Together, we will rebuild—stronger and more united than ever.
