the Art Department was able to print our own slides on acetate that didn't melt in the 80-year- old functioning projectors. After the production wrapped this portion of filming, Voight spoke with several crew members and told Chris Rose, "This is one of the richest sets I've ever played on." Our hours of stress, trial and error and the impossibly tight turn around were well worth it in the end. During the filming of Reagan, the production was able to look past party lines and focus on telling the story of the first actor turned President, while all keeping an eye on the news to see if the former reality star would serve a second term. We filmed the debate between Reagan and Carter the same week as the first debate between Biden and Trump. We finished the major portion of principal photography right as the 2020 election was coming to a close. The film was finished in Oklahoma in 2021, after several more hiatuses, waiting for the right weather at the Reagan Ranch (Rancho Del Cielo) and regrouping to shoot all the young Reagan scenes. Seeing the film for the first time in August 2024 at the premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre, four years after wrapping principal photography (also during an election cycle) definitely brought me right back to those tense months in Oklahoma.
