90 SAG-AFTRA SPECIAL ISSUE 2025 / sagaf tra.org 1987 1999 The SAG Foundation begins fundraising and administering the John L. Dales Scholarship Fund, awarded to SAG members and their dependents for study at higher education institutions. The SAG Foundation launches Storyline, a children's literacy initiative where kids can dial-in and listen to well-known actors read children's stories over the telephone. 1985 1997 The Screen Actors Guild Foundation is established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and assumes responsibility for the Screen Actors Guild's Emergency Assistance Program, providing emergency financial assistance to SAG members in urgent need. The AFTRA Foundation is created, providing grants for education, training, research and other special programs of value to AFTRA performers, broadcasters and recording artists.
