114 SAG-AFTRA | Fall/Winter 2024 | sagaftra.org In Memoriam NICHOLAS PRYOR, a former Screen Actors Guild treasurer and National Board member, passed away Oct. 7 at the age of 89. Pryor joined AFTRA in 1955 during his senior year at Yale to make his New York live television debut on NBC's anthology series Star for Tonight, which began his seven-decade career as a working actor on stage and screen. He's remembered for notable performances in Risky Business, Less Than Zero, Airplane!, Hoffa, General Hospital, Another World and Beverly Hills, 90210. Joining SAG in 1960, Pryor began taking an active role in union service when he picketed during the 1980 SAG and AFTRA strike. Former SAG President Ed Asner, who Pryor worked to get elected in 1981, urged him to run for the National Board, and in 1988 Pryor was elected to his first three-year term. He was then elected to a two-year term as SAG treasurer in 1991 and again as National Board member in 1993. He served as chair or vice chair on numerous committees between 1993–2000, including Wages & Working Conditions, Chairs, Union Development, Building Management, and Real Estate Planning committees. He was also a member of the TV/Theatrical Negotiating, Theatrical/TV Contract, National Communications and National Agents Relations committees, among others. During his service on the Real Estate Planning Committee, he played a role in moving SAG's national headquarters to its current location at SAG-AFTRA Plaza.
