M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 9 participation from top industry sound artists is one of the reasons that Sounding Board has become so popular. For the first time, we were delighted to have vendors on hand to showcase all the latest and greatest in sound. We were pleased to welcome event sponsors Shure and ASG, as well as PMC, K-Tek, Custom House, Apogee, and AEA. The Best Practices Pavilion featured four panels which were each held two times during the day. This gave our guests the chance to attend each of them in case they were busy in another panel. Guests were treated to illuminating topics such as Communication Breakdown, Calibration & EQ, De-Noise Shootout, and Re-Re-Re-Conforming. The Communication Breakdown presentation was helmed by Amanda Beggs CAS and Brent Kiser CAS, and focused on tricks for writing and reading production sound notes and improving lines of communication between production and post. The De-Noise Shootout panel was presented by Bob Bronow CAS MPSE and covered how humans' creative dialogue work can break through the "noise" of emerging AI options. The Calibration and EQ panel was presented by Bryan Pennington CAS and gave attendees some fantastic tips on how to get the best out of their rooms. Lastly, the Re-Re-Re-Conform panel was presented by Stephanie Brown MPSE, Bill Dean MPSE, and Eryne Prine, who chatted with guests about how to minimize issues in a multi- conform scenario. When the last panel had finished, it was time to step out into the gorgeous Southern California night air and enjoy some fantastic appetizers and our open beer/wine bar. Guests were invited to linger in the courtyard as well as in The George Lucas Building and The Stephen Spielberg Building to visit and network. It was an incredible day filled with food, fun, and friends, and we were thrilled to offer all of it for just $25 per person and $10 for students. The MPSE and CAS chose to donate all ticket sale proceeds to the nonprofit Entertainment Industry Professional Mentoring Alliance (EIPMA). Due to the high turnout, we were able to present them with a check for $4,000 to assist in their mission of helping newcomers in the industry. We all win when we work together. We are already making plans for Sounding Board 5.0 and hope we see you there! MPSE Fall Family Picnic The 2024 MPSE Fall Family Picnic was our most attended yet! We welcomed 350 members and their families for a day of wild fun and delicious food and drink. And because our picnic was so close to Halloween, for the first time, we invited guests to come in costume. They did not disappoint! Guests were treated to an open beer/wine bar and all the sumptuous Mexican food they could eat. As always, our vegetarian friends also had
