54 M PS E . O R G taken the train all the way from Germany, another had come in from Switzerland and then I talked to an American ex-pat who had come in from their new adopted home in Scotland. In addition to international attendees, others had come from all over England, as I spoke with a fellow from Manchester, and then a group from Bristol. Some people talked about working on series, some were focused on sound for films, a few were breaking new ground in immersive sound design, and lots were from the game audio side of things. It was an amazing mix of every corner of the audio world. Around 8 pm, I was speaking with a group of people from a London- based audio post studio, when one of them asked me if I was happy with the turnout? After I relayed my excitement for how many people were there, he said, "and the crowd outside is pretty impressive too!" I did not know what he meant. He gestured out the window and I was amazed to discover that there was another huge group of people, maybe 50 more, congregating out on the sidewalk in front of the pub. They could not fit inside, so a whole secondary gathering was happening out there!?? At first, I was a little mortified that people were being forced to be outside, but then I discovered that this is somewhat normal in London. Drinking and chatting away, outside the pub is not unusual for the locals, and everyone seemed just fine with it. So, I went outside and met a whole bunch more amazing audio people! I have been producing the Tonebenders Sound Design Podcast for more than 12 years now. A lot of work goes into making each episode, from procuring guests, to editing the interviews, to posting The inside of the pub was full of sound folk telling stories and sharing laughs. An upcoming episode of the "Tonebenders Goes to London" series sponsored by MPSE, will feature a talk about the sound of James Bond films through the years.
