BYPERRY LaMARCA MPSE 24 M PS E . O R G From Grain Modules to AI: The Evolution of Sound Design Technology As a sound designer, I've always been captivated by the tools that allow us to reshape and redefine sonic landscapes. I'm still using tools like Reason 10's Grain module and Subtractor synthesizer to experiment with sound design techniques. These tools opened up new horizons, enabling me to deconstruct sounds into entirely new textures. The Grain module, in particular, allows for intricate manipulation of samples, turning simple sounds into evolving atmospheres. Similarly, the Subtractor provides a playground for crafting unique tones through subtractive synthesis, filtering rich waveforms to carve out distinct sonic identities. As powerful as those tools are, I found myself yearning for something that could push the boundaries even further, wishing for a platform that combined sound manipulation with intuitive controls and advanced features. I found Krotos Studio, and from the moment I launched the software, I sensed a shift in what could be my approach to sound design. This wasn't just another gimmicky tool; it felt like an intelligent way to create—or recreate—ideas to put those thoughts into sounds in a fast and less complicated way.
