WINTER 2024 7 E D I T O R ' S N O T E ROMA MURPHY ("Brave New Worlds") is a comedy writer living in Los Angeles and missing her hometown of New York. She is a proud member of TAG and has worked across studios like Disney and DreamWorks. In her free time she likes to cook and have long conversations with her cat. WHITNEY FRIEDLANDER ("Life Lessons") is an entertainment journalist who lives in Los Angeles with her husband, son, daughter, and infamously ornery cat. A former staff writer at the Los Angeles Times and Variety, she has also written for Esquire, Marie Claire, and The Washington Post, and currently contributes to CNN. STUDIO FUSE is the design team behind the look of Keyframe and keyframemagazine.org since the 2018 launch. Jenn Logan, Creative Director, wrangles all things production-related and designed "Call of the Wild." The handy work of Scott Luberda, Web Master and Senior Designer, is on display in "Brave New Worlds" and "Isn't It Marvelous!" And our publication maven, Alessandra Cruz-Putnam, pulls it all together with column layout in "Spirit of Giving," "Feeding the Soul," and more. Characters, TV shows, movies, and franchises have lasted and grown over decades. As Marvel celebrates its 85th anniversary, we celebrate the history of its animated TV shows (p.20), which would not exist without TAG members. Our members not only power the animation the public continues to love generation after generation, but they also nurture one another to thrive in the industry. While working, Technical Director Norman Joseph intentionally practices the art of encouragement (p.14), and off the job, members still keep an eye out for one another, as is evidenced by the story of stolen awards returned to legendary animator Floyd Norman by a group of caring animation workers (p.42). But TAG members don't just rest on their laurels. They constantly seek new ways to be creative, like Mariah-Rose Marie who turned her storyboarding skills to creating a cookbook based on ancestral recipes (p.12). In our winter movie roundup (p.34), old favorites enjoy innovative approaches in Transformers One and Moana 2, while The Wild Robot takes DreamWorks down a new path with its beautiful story of technology, nature, and rebirth (p.26). While these times might feel perilous, there is still something we can count on: the dedication, determination, inclusion, and abundantly growing talent of our membership. Kim Fay editor@tag839.org AS THE ANIMATION INDUSTRY NEGOTIATES ITS FUTURE IN AN AGE OF CORPORATE DOWNSIZING AND NEW TECHNOLOGY (AGAIN!), I BELIEVE IT'S IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT OUR TAG MEMBERS FIGHT FOR FAIR WAGES AND TREATMENT ON AN INCREDIBLY RICH FOUNDATION THAT THEY WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN BUILDING.
