AT THE CAPITOL 5 WINTER 2024 | ADVOCATE W hile there is disappointment with the results of the presidential election, we know that change is made at every level of the ballot. Union educators have spent the past year knocking on doors and calling voters throughout the state to get out the vote for pro-public education champions. Change was on the ballot from state legislative to school board seats, and we have wins to celebrate up and down the ballot. Congratulations to all of AEA's recommended candidates who won: • U.S. Senator-elect Ruben Gallego • U.S Representative Raúl Grijalva • U.S. Representative Greg Stanton • Arizona Senators Lela Alston, eresa Hatathlie, Lauren Kuby, Eva Burch, Mitzi Epstein, Priya Sundareshan, Rosanna Gabaldón, Eva Diaz, Brian Fernandez, Analise Ortiz and Flavio Bravo • Arizona Representatives Stephanie Simacek, Sarah Ligouri, Aaron Márquez, Mae Peshlakai, Janeen Connolly, Brian Garcia, Lorena Austin, Seth Blattman, Oscar De Los Santos, Junelle Cavero, Patty Contreras, Stacey Travers, Kevin Volk, Nancy Gutierrez, Chris Mathis, Betty Villegas, Stephanie Stahl Hamilton, Lupe Contreras, Mariana Sandoval, Anna Abeytia, Cesar Aguilar and Quantá Crews We also defeated multiple anti-voter and anti-democratic propositions, like Propositions 134 and 136 that would have made it nearly impossible to run and win ballot initiatives that allow our communities to directly make an impact on our state. Another significant win is the passage of Proposition 139 which enshrines abortion access in Arizona. e wins continued at the local level with many local associations achieving wins in their school board, bond, and override elections. ank you to our members who were part of these efforts!
