D E C E M B E R 2 0 2 4 I 5 Amendment One: Dues The first amendment increases DGA dues for the first time since 1988 to ensure the Guild is well-resourced to negotiate and enforce our contracts in an industry that is increasingly complex. In recognition of the slowdown in production, these changes will phase in over four years to ensure little to no immediate impact on members who are retired or not yet back to work. These new resources will allow the Guild to maintain and grow member services to protect your creative and economic rights; to increase contract enforcement, research and negotiating capacity; and bolster legislative work to fight runaway production, IP theft, and to protect jobs from the threat of AI. Amendment Two: Elections The second amendment is a change to make the election process at the DGA's Biennial National Convention more efficient. If you have questions about either of these amendments, please contact Amendment@dga.org or call (310) 752-5959. DGA Membership Ratifies New Constitutional Amendments On November 13, the DGA announced that two important amendments to the Guild's Constitution and Bylaws that were unanimously approved by the National Board have been ratified by the membership-at-large by decisive margins. The first was a vote to raise DGA dues to secure the Guild's financial future, and the second was a change to the administration of DGA elections. Beginning January 1, 2025 Dues percentage on earnings (which includes residuals), will increase from 1.5% to 1.6% Income cap for dues will increase from $300,000 to $750,000* Beginning January 1, 2026 Basic dues for active members will increase from $200 to $250 per year Beginning January 1, 2028 Basic dues for active members will increase from $250 to $300 per year No Changes Retiree basic dues will remain at $100 per year No dues will be assessed on the first $10,000 in earnings Additional dues on residuals will stay at 1% *The Board has the authority to increase the income cap by up to $75,000 once per year by a two thirds majority vote, not to exceed a cap of $1,000,000. Current Process Each of the 49 National Board seats at the DGA is filled via a separate election for which an unlimited number of individuals can be nominated. Often, no individual receives a majority of votes on the initial ballot, which leads to run-off ballots that eliminate the lowest vote getter. This results in numerous run-off elections each round until one candidate receives a majority of the votes. New Process, Beginning January 1, 2025 The run-off process will now be administered so that only the top two candidates in the initial vote for a seat will be placed on the run-off ballot.
