Costum Costum Q UA R T E R LY The The Welcome to the world of motion picture costuming. Since the first day I was sworn in as a Local 705 Costumer, I have been honored to be a part of something bigger than myself. Throughout my time as a 705 Costumer, I have learned the secrets of the trade as more seasoned Costumers would let me in on their techniques for stain removal, quick-aging tricks, organizing a closet, application of stage blood, or repairing a split seam on a single pair of pants that had to work another 10 hours. Another side of our cra is more managerial, and these off-production Costumers coordinate all sourcing of materials, obtaining all costume pieces, breaking down scripts for budgeting and continuity purposes, fiing actors, and assuring that every detail that makes it on camera is intentional and reflects the Costume Designer's specifications. Arguably the most recognized part of our cra is the construction of costumes by our ever-evolving Custom Made craspeople. Local 705 represents milliners, dyers, specialty builders, leatherworkers, paernmakers, tailors, figure makers, beaders, and cobblers, among other costume makers. We are Motion Picture Costumers. We work on blockbuster films that get you out of the house to the theaters for an all-encompassing escape, and on the intimate shows you watch in your living room. We spend hours creating, obtaining, adjusting, and perfecting costume pieces that leave audiences captivated. I'm excited we get to share our world with you.
