40 WINTER 2025 We sat down with the Local 705 Costumers from Lessons in Chemistry to celebrate the genius of their work and the catalytic alchemy their team created. Costume Supervisor Kelli Hagen led the team and shared the strategies that brought success. David Wallace, the Workroom Head, took the time to share his elemental tips and tricks for balancing the needs of production, as well as his paerns. Tailor Sylvester Centina covered his experience supporting solutions and the scintillating basic functions on Lessons in Chemistry. Let's begin, shall we? Kelli Hagen aributes her meteoric rise in skill and job opportunities to her hustle and her willingness to soak up all the expertise surrounding her on the job daily. With more than 25 years in costuming experience, Hagen emphasizes that all costumers should "Remain Teachable Always." Hagen initially was resistant to the added pressures, workload, and stress that is associated with supervising but she eventually saw that there is an ongoing need for good supervisors and she wanted to step up to the mantle to do her part in supporting crews. She has been supervising for a few years now and Hagen has been recognized for her hard work and superior running of a show with her nomination for an Emmy for her work on Lessons in Chemistry. She aributed her success with supervising, to her values of respect, trust, and kindness. "Those qualities make the world a beer place and the costume department more efficient."
