6 • LMGI COMPASS | Fall 2024 CONTRIBUTORS Chris Evans Chris Evans has been a film and TV journalist and editor for 25 years, covering locations and production, most recently as locations editor of Screen International and KFTV. He has lived and worked in many countries, including Chile, where he was editor of the Santiago Times. His experience there was tempered somewhat, though, by being chased to the office each day by rabid dogs! Evans enjoys interviewing a variety of people in the screen sector, from gaffers and location scouts to A-list directors and actors. He can take his hand to everything from snappy news stories to big reports on key trending subjects, like virtual production and sustainability. He's also easy to spot on location at two meters tall! Diane Friedman/LMGI Diane grew up in New York and, with a background in art and photography, began her career in San Francisco working in cable and broadcast television. As a Los Angeles-based Local 399 location manager and scout for almost 30 years, she is proud to be a founding Board member of the Guild. For the past several years, she has been the Co-chair of the LMGI Awards Committee for Television and is a co- editor on the LMGI Compass magazine. She treasures all the friendships and working relationships she has had over the years and values every opportunity to promote the work we do. Paul Messana/LMGI Paul first became interested in location scouting while he was an undergrad at Pitzer College. He worked summer positions and took independent courses that supplemented learning about the field, including working on a thesis documentary project about location scouting in the Faroe Islands. Upon graduation, Paul worked under Joan Aguado at the South Pasadena Film Office of his hometown and through that position, he was introduced to location managers and more opportunities in the field. He has since been working as a key assistant location manager and scout on This Is Us, Loot & High Potential. His love for Los Angeles and creative eye inspired him to work on bigger projects and he can't wait for what is next. Your story ideas, articles and photography belong on these pages and on our website. Articles focus on aspects of location management and scouting. Photographs for the "Martini Shot" are exemplary location shots, with an evocative, artistic component that take it up a notch … a hero shot in a VERTICAL orientation. Please send submissions to compass @locationmanagers.org We welcome contributions to the LMGI Compass.
