Fall 2024
We marked the end of summer with our awesome signature event, the 11th Annual LMGI Awards gala
on August 24! It was a much-needed celebratory boost as the entertainment industry emerges from
an uncertain year of labor unrest and production contraction.
Fall is Emmy season, and many LMGI members cast their votes as members of the Television
Academy. As LMGI membership grows, so should our Academy presence. If you are not already
an Academy member, bring your discerning eye and boots-on-the-ground experience and join the
organization dedicated to promoting the work of television professionals. Now, more than ever, it
is important to make our unique creative perspective understood and respected as our industry
grapples with finding its way forward in a new economic landscape.
Our feature stories not only celebrate our love, pride and commitment to our craft, but also show how
location scouting and management have adapted and expanded over time.
LMGI Compass co-editor Diane Friedman reports on the exuberant awards gala in our cover story
"Find Your Place: The 2024 LMGI Awards!" Nominees, honorees, members, sponsors and friends
from across the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia and the Middle East gathered this year in Beverly
Hills to party in style and celebrate the excellence of on-location work with colleagues from around
the world.
Chris Evans examines the impact of new tech and expanding responsibilities on today's Location
Department in "The Changing Face of Location Management," and Paul Messana profiles rising star,
Los Angeles KALM Sheila Ryan-Cruz, in "The Next Generation."
"In the News" chronicles the annual LMGI presence at Comic-Con, our annual LMGI Awards' "Meet
the Nominees" Zoom panels, the educational panels at Stone Mountain, Georgia, and the LMGI's
Oceania Regional Committee's inaugural mixer in Queensland, Australia.
In Los Angeles, out-of-town award nominees, LMGI members and guests were hosted at "Scene
Setters Social: LMGI Awards Prelude Happy Hour" for L.A. locals to meet and mingle with fellow
location professionals from across the United States and around the world who flew in to attend the
awards gala the following evening.
And finally, we take a breath for a dreamlike moment in the pastoral UK countryside captured by LM
Peter Gray/LMGI in our "Martini Shot."
Until next time,

FROM THE
EDITORS' DESK
"Your work is going to
fill a large part of your
life, and the only way
to be truly satisfied is
to do what you believe
is great work. And the
only way to do great
work is to love what
you do."
