12 • LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2023 Spirits were high on August 23 at Beverly Hills's The Hideaway bar where LMGI members and award nominees gathered for a pre-awards get-together event. Many of the LMGI members who stayed in the Beverly Hills area had mentioned that this restaurant was on their list to visit and photograph and were delighted the Guild was hosting a party there. Said LMGI administrative manager Erika Howard, "The location was a perfect place to hold a casual get-together of people. The room was packed, forcing everyone to rub elbows. Because I knew many award nominees would be in attendance, we had special buttons with the LMGI logo color and shape made up and it was a great way to break the ice and get everyone talking to each other about their nominations before the actual awards." Tom Ybarra was the man of the hour when his company, longtime LMGI business partner Reel Waste & Recycling, sponsored a comped drink for all the attendees in addition to their sponsorship of the awards show. Commercial Nominee Paul Riordan/LMGI (Toyota: Present from the Past), who traveled from Washington State to attend, said, "I thoroughly enjoyed engaging with top-tier professionals from around the world at the party. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of attendees from various countries, which truly underscored the global nature of the LMGI. It was great to make new friends and network with everyone." Said New York-based Limited Series nominee Chris Britton/ LMGI ( Feud: Capote vs The Swans), "The Hideaway bar was the perfect location for our pre-awards cocktail party. The swanky subterranean aesthetic could also be fantastic on film— and mentioning this to other LMGI nominees and members was the perfect networking opener! The event really created a welcoming spirit, and I really appreciated the chance to meet more location managers and scouts from around the globe!" Added JP O'Connor/LMGI, "What a delightful venue, from the hidden backroom where David McKinney held court to booths where Japan, UK, Australia and many others were well represented." Period Film Nominee Miranda Carnessale/LMGI ( Killers of the Flower Moon) had this to say, "Having the opportunity to get together in an intimate setting with others from my Oklahoma team, many of whom flew in from around the country, was a highlight of the awards weekend for me. It's a group of folks who are all very close and it was much more difficult to really be together at the larger event with hundreds of attendees. We also had the luxury of meeting and getting to know some of the other nominees from around the world, including Australia and Japan. The mutual admiration contained in that little hideaway was palpable and overall, very inspiring to connect with old and new friends alike." LMGI Awards Prelude Happy Hour Party 1.
