Production Designer Naaman Marshall took design cues from the original 1986 Aliens dropship hangar, adding similarly shaped curved pillar elements and a monotone raw metal surface. It was important to create a feeling of the station being abandoned and derelict right off the bat. We added a lot of debris and kept it more industrial and well used. There's little to no artificial lighting in the station when the characters first enter, so I added skylights in the ceiling above the escape pod bay to allow some cool natural light from the exterior planetary rings to rake across the floor. For the ensuing curved laboratory hallways, Naaman wanted something reminiscent of the interior of the Nostromo, but colder and more and sterile, similar to the Sulaco transport ship in Cameron's Aliens. A lot of original Nostromo signage was added to firmly plant this film in the world. Romulus Lab Designed by Concept Artist Nick Stath, Nick recalls "Fede Alvarez and Naaman Marshall proposed the idea of the Romulus lab as an 'oval shaped' room that was to feel more modern than other spaces we see on the ship. The design of the room was to be highly functional and experimental in its aesthetic. The proposed design includes key high-tech elements on display; a central fridge, robotic arms, workstations and water filled tanks holding clusters of facehuggers being harvested for their "black goo."
