velvet walls, mahogany wainscoting, a suite of scarlet seating and a proper kneeler to match the operatic ecstasy of the scene. The last major set to open would be the Jackson basement, that classic Room-You-Dare-Not- Enter. Here lay the heart of the possession gripping the house, a direct portal to Hell. My early sketches showed a ground plan that fit plausibly into the footprint of the house above. An old wood staircase took two right turns to descend to the concrete floor below, leading to the ruptured concrete hellhole twenty feet away. Rotting brick arches framed the space to suggest the crypt of a cathedral—the perfect site for Ebony's final battle between darkness and light. A brilliant local PD, Greg Weimerskirch, took on the Set Designer mantel to draft this set and build its digital model. A.
