Loraine Bobbitt came home from a tough day at work as a hairdresser,
wanting nothing more than to relax and listen to some music. Her
6-year-old boy, however, had other ideas. He was fascinated by the
rhythmic and constant rotation of her record player; his inquiring mind
wanted to know … so he had taken the record player apart, piece
by piece. Too exasperated to get angry, Loraine simply stated, "Put
it back together!" Loraine's patience, guidance and encouragement
was the foundation for our Humanitarian Award recipient, Russell
Bobbitt.
Russell began his film journey as a set dresser for Academy Award-
nominated set decorator Bobby Gould. Early on, Bobby told
Russell to throw a cup of coffee on the walls of the set; Russell was
mortified! But the talented decorator knew that the coffee would be
the perfect finishing touch his set needed. In that moment, Russell
learned that art was sometimes messy. Bobby saw a talented and
motivated leader developing; it was Bobby who showed Russell a
path to helping others.
Soon, Russell moved into the Property Department, working under
legendary Property Master Doug Fox. Doug realized that Russell's
