Tampa's strong infrastructure and ongoing developments are also a major advantage. The city's commitment to enhancing its public spaces and transportation options makes it an increas- ingly attractive destination for group events. Additionally, the wealth of amenities and cultural attractions provides ample opportunities for attendees to enjoy their time outside of confer- ence sessions. When planning an event in Tampa, it's also important to con- sider the city's weather. Tampa's subtropical climate means warm temperatures year-round, but it's wise to plan for the pos- sibility of rain, especially during the summer months. Choosing venues with flexible indoor and outdoor spaces can help miti- gate any weather-related disruptions. insighTs & QuoTes from inDusTry leaDers & professionals Throughout the conference, I had a great opportunity to gath- er quotes from various industry leaders, each offering their valu- able perspective on the Tampa Bay experience. 1. sherri T. brown, vice president of multicultural sales and Development at visit Tampa bay: "We believe that inclu- sivity is the cornerstone of a thriving tourism industry. Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where everyone can experi- ence the beauty and culture of Tampa." 2. sanTiago c. corraDa, president/ceo of visit Tampa bay: "The commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential for the future of tourism. This conference has highlighted the strides we're making as an industry and the work that still needs to be done. My motto is to be a friend before you need a friend" 3. ricky Thigpen, Destination international, inclusion committee board member, Jackson, mississippi: "Tampa exceeded my expectations as a conference destination. I'm returning with a wealth of valuable insights from networking that I plan to implement in our tourism strategies in Jackson. We've progressed from merely asking for a seat at the table to now set- ting the table ourselves." 4. bennish brown, president/ceo of Destination augusta: "Tourism is about bringing people together from all walks of life. Ensuring that everyone feels welcome and valued is key to the success of any destination. I realize, I must keep the pathway clean for those who are to follow me. It is important as industry leaders and as individuals that we protect our good name by the solid work that we present" 5. chanTal ross-francios, president visit east point: "I've attended many conferences, but the focus on diversity and inclusion here was both unique and essential. The information and content were incredibly relevant. I always say that Georgia is where the world meets. Meeting in Tampa this weekend was a fantastic opportunity to connect with new colleagues from around the globe and share our trials, pitfalls, and solutions. This conference truly facilitated that exchange." 6. Devin heaTh, president/ceo of Distinctly fayetteville, board member of social inclusion committee for Destinations international: "We focus on how to grow diverse leaders within all layers of the organization. Representation is important. Making sure we have black and all people of color represented in every aspect of the organization is important. This is also true of the LGBTQ+ and those with handicaps or acces- sibility challenges, all should be heard within leadership roles. We are all in this together. It takes all of us." 7. Julie holemen, vp of membership for Destinations international: "We have 757 destination members. Our mem- bers also encompass regional members, different countries, in addition to state and provincial members. Our Latin America membership is growing. Korea has also come on as a new member. As part of our newest expansion efforts, we have now started to welcome sporting commissions, tribal, and colleges/universities. Most members that have joined us, want to tap into our accreditation developmental programs to elevate their conversations about tourism in their distinctive areas. Our organization is so focused on providing a welcoming environ- ment for all. We work on breaking down the barriers to having certain conversations that lead to guiding the expansion of inclu- sion. My motto is, to trust the universe." final ThoughTs My visit to Tampa for the Destinations International Conference was an intriguing experience that showcased the city's capabilities as a premier conference destination. From its modern meeting facilities and luxurious accommodations to its vibrant cultural scene and ongoing infrastructure developments, Tampa offers everything needed to host successful and memo- rable events. For planners and travel agents looking to bring a group to Tampa, the city's unique blend of business and leisure amenities makes it a compelling top choice that is sure to leave a lasting impression on any diverse group of attendees.
