Nora Gerard interviewed by Kyle Good Director Nora Gerard reflects on her career in news, her working relationship with her directorial team, and her experiences as a woman in the network television world. Gerard on changing the style when she began directing the CBS News show, Sunday Morning: "When I took over the show — the show has a very loyal audience and it's not a thing that you change lightly at all. Before I started, I actually watched a lot of earlier shows that Ken Sable, the original Director, had directed. Bill Brady was the second Director and I watched what he did and there were lots of just pacing changes in the show. I watched because I needed to create this same pace and feel that was right for Sunday Morning. It wasn't a hard news show, it wasn't a weekday news show. It was a much slower paced show and I felt had a kind of elegance. And I shot it differently than either one of them did. I purposely shot the on-cameras where the camera move started before we faded up so the viewer was immediately drawn into the camera lens and what was happening and what the anchor was saying. And the camera didn't stop moving when we went to the piece, because most pieces actually start with a move on the first shot as well. So it just was this organic flow that brought you right into the story. And it was really purposeful on my part."
