Coldsnow-Smith credits Friedkin and Lansing with helping her husband find suc- cessful treatment for his condition; among the causes supported by the Sherry Lansing Foundation is cancer research. "He was a cool guy," Coldsnow-Smith said. "He was a lot of fun." In addition to his wife and his sister, Smith is survived by three children from his first marriage: retired picture editor S. Scott Smith, Steven Smith, and Jill Smith. ■ — Peter Tonguette
