Bower joined both SAG and AFTRA in 1973. He was a working actor with a half-century's worth of film and TV credits, including The Waltons, The Hills Have Eyes, Crazy Heart, Pollock and Die Hard 2. As a union leader, Bower served on the SAG National Board from 1995–2002, as well as on the Hollywood Board and dozens of committees, including the SAG TV Residual Study, Global Rule One, Communications, National Agents Relations, and National New Technologies committees, just to name a few. He was also responsible for co-creating what is today known as SAGindie, a union resource that guides independent filmmakers through the signatory process. Professionally, Bower never slowed down, from first taking the stage as a teenager to his recent work. He brought that same passion to union leadership and to advocating for his fellow members.
