Summer 2024
This summer brings welcome news of labor reconciliation with contract talks successfully concluded
in Los Angeles. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and get back to doing what we do best-bringing
stories to life! And at the end of August, we once again celebrate the best of what you have brought
to life on big and little screens from all corners of the globe with our 11th Annual LMGI Awards gala!
In this issue, we are delighted to shine a light on the extraordinary craftsmanship and artistry of our
international location community.
In our cover story, "The
Fall Guy: An Action-Packed Love Story Told Down Under," Shaun O'Banion
goes behind the scenes as SLM Phillip Roope and team perform their own dazzling stunt work for an
over-the-top spectacle in the heart of Sydney.
"And the Nominees Are…" showcases the finalists for this year's 11th Annual LMGI Awards in film,
television, commercials and film commissions. Location professionals in cities across the US,
Canada, UK, Ireland, Europe, Asia and Australia submitted more than 200 projects for consideration
in all categories, confirming how intrinsic the right location is to telling a story in the most powerful
way.
"In My City" provides an insider's look at the Netherlands' city of 's-Hertogenbosch (aka "Den
Bosch"), with local LM Benjamin Hendriks.
"In the News" reports on the LMGI Board elections, a Fam Tour to the US Virgin Islands and the
latest LMGI members accepted into AMPAS' Class of 2024. We cover LMGI's "A Day at the Races"
at the iconic Santa Anita Park, and the successful Savannah class on the art and craft of location
managing and scouting taught by LMGI Board and Education Committee members Mac Gordon and
Ryan Schaetzle.
KALM/scout Ehrin Davis gives us a dazzling view of Utah in our "Martini Shot."
We hope to see you all in person on Saturday, August 24, at the LMGI Awards gala in Beverly Hills, CA,
or following the event livestreamed on YouTube!
Until next time,
Stevie Nelson, Diane Friedman, Paul Messana, Edward Mazurek, Dodd Vickers
