18 M PS E . O R G developments. The integration of machine learning, artificial intelligence, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and other future technologies into our daily lives is already well underway and is expected to evolve rapidly. It is evident that this advancement of technology will continually transform the landscape of game audio. And, as trends shift and new technology emerges, so do the session offerings each year. GSC provides a platform for showcasing the latest tools, software, and hardware that are shaping the future of the industry. Exhibitors often debut new products, giving attendees the first look at groundbreaking technologies. It often features academic presentations and research findings, bridging the gap between academia and industry. This exchange of knowledge ensures that the latest scientific advancements are incorporated into practical applications, driving the field of game audio forward. Additionally, GSC has incorporated sessions on designing immersive soundscapes for VR and AR environments, exploring the unique requirements and possibilities these platforms offer. It hosts many sessions covering topics like adaptive music, spatial audio, and the integration of artificial intelligence in sound design and voice work. In 2023, a well-received SRO (standing room only) session featured panelists on opposing sides of the AI landscape speaking about the best ways to work with one another while ensuring fair contracts and protections for voice talent. Since partnering with Brian and GSC, the conference has become a major event for professionals in the game audio industry. We've continued to create engaging talks and bring together experts to discuss the latest trends, technologies, and techniques in game audio. It's a great opportunity for networking, learning, and sharing knowledge with peers in the industry. By bringing together diverse voices from various backgrounds, GSC stimulates creative thinking and inspires attendees to push the boundaries of what is possible in game audio. Industry leaders donate their time and expertise to uplift the industry and support the community. For newcomers to the industry, this conference offers a chance to meet established professionals and gain valuable insights into the field. Beginners can attend introductory sessions to learn the basics of sound design and audio implementation, while seasoned professionals can delve into advanced topics like procedural audio generation and binaural recording techniques. While integral to game development, the game audio field can sometimes feel isolated due to its niche nature. GSC brings together audio professionals from around the world and helps to build a sense of community. GSC has and continues to foster a global network of individuals dedicated to advancing the field of game audio. People often tell aspiring film composers to "not bother networking with other composers, since they are your competition, and not in a position to hire you." In games, networking within the industry is essential! The person responsible for hiring composers frequently holds the title of "audio director" for a company. Audio directors are almost always former (or current!) composers themselves. So, a freelance composer you talk to, who today may technically be a 'rival' as a freelancer, two years from now may actually be the audio director at a major company looking to hire one or more composers for their upcoming game. 2024 marks GameSoundCon's 15th anniversary. It has grown from a single room with a few dozen aspiring composers and sound designers to seven rooms with more than 700 in-person attendees, and another 300-plus online across all game audio disciplines. It is *the* networking and industry event for working and aspiring game audio professionals and proudly boasts being the largest game audio industry event. By staying informed about the latest technological developments, audio professionals can ensure they use the most effective tools and techniques in their work, ultimately leading to better gaming experiences for themselves and for the fans. This community spirit is essential for sustaining the growth and development of the industry. This sense of belonging fosters collaboration, support, and camaraderie within the community—a tenet that anyone should subscribe to. The culture of GameSoundCon, and that of the community, is one of openness and sharing.
