The evolution of cinematic horror in video games has been nothing short of extraordinary. At the forefront of this evolution is the procedural approach to sound design, which has revolutionized the way audio is integrated into horror games, creating a more immersive and terrifying experience for players. Supermassive Games, known for their prolific output of one game per year for the past 15 years, have mastered this craft, blending seamless gameplay and dynamic audio to heighten the emotional intensity of their titles. With the upcoming remastered release of Until Dawn and its adaptation into a film, the significance of sound design in creating a compelling narrative cannot be overstated. The procedural systems developed over the years have allowed for a consistent yet highly adaptable audio experience, from the meticulous character Foley to the evocative musical scores that drive the story forward. To learn more about this procedural approach, we're joined with senior audio director from Supermassive Games, Barney Pratt MPSE.
